Normal Map Bench

Create OpenGL or DirectX normal maps from images with live strength, smoothing, edge and lighting controls.

Normal Map Generator is a browser native texture utility that converts a height texture into a clean tangent space normal map. It reads the brightness of an input image, interprets bright areas as higher and dark areas as lower, and derives per pixel surface directions that a renderer can use to simulate fine relief. The complete conversion happens on the user's device: image decoding, filtering, preview rendering, and PNG creation all run locally, with no upload endpoint, account system, analytics script, or third party image processor. The workflow is deliberately linear. A user adds a source image by choosing a PNG, JPG, or WebP, dragging it into the input panel, or starting from a built in sample. They then tune relief with controls for strength, smoothing, filter choice, orientation, height inversion, and edge behavior. A movable light lets them inspect the result under changing illumination, and a final export produces a full resolution PNG of the generated normal map.
