A MUST have
I'm a very light sleeper and I already love this! I have this playing on my bedside speaker and I can hear the difference between this and other similar App Store offerings. This is superior!
Calm Alternative
The same day my 7 day trial ended I had my finger on the button to pay another $50 for pink noise. Luckily this came thru on Reddit and I tried it out. Absolutely what I wanted that even Apple Music couldn't provide. Really simple private app. Loving it!
Amazing app!
Been a bad sleeper forever and this is the first app that actually helped. The pink noise setting is perfect. So glad my friend told me about this!
New favorite white noise app
Big fan of the UI and tuning feature to dial in the perfect sound to help me sleep.
Pink Noise Rocks
I have been using Apple Music for pink noise. This app is so simple, so cheap, and so what I wanted. Thank you!
New: Noise Tuning
Shape every sound
to fit your ears.
No two people hear noise the same way. Veil lets you tune each sound with precision controls: adjust the treble blend, set the low-pass cutoff frequency, change the speed, and set the level. Make brown noise deeper. Make pink noise brighter. Dial in exactly what works for you.
No other white noise app gives you this level of control. Most don't even let you adjust a single parameter. Veil gives you four per sound.
The Science of Sound
Not all noise
is equal.
Each color of noise has a different frequency character, and each one affects focus and sleep differently. A little context goes a long way toward finding what actually works for you.
every frequency.
White noise distributes equal power across all frequencies, like all colors of light blended together into white. The result is a bright, dense hiss that forms a consistent wall of sound, blocking out sudden or shifting noises before they register.
natural character.
Pink noise reduces power as frequency goes up, matching the natural acoustic distribution of sounds in the world around us. Warmer and softer than white noise, it's the most studied color for sleep, with research linking it to deeper slow-wave sleep and improved memory consolidation.
low and powerful.
Brown noise (named after Brownian motion, not the color) concentrates energy at the lowest frequencies, producing a deep, enveloping rumble. It's the darkest and most immersive of the three. A lot of people with busy minds swear by it.
bass free.
Green noise concentrates its energy in the middle of the spectrum, around the range that everyday ambient sound occupies, and rolls off both the deep bass and the high hiss. That makes it feel open and light rather than heavy, and it is the one color that masks without adding any weight to the room.
not to a meter.
Grey noise is shaped around the way human hearing actually works. Your ears are far more sensitive in the midrange than at the extremes, so grey scoops out the middle and lifts the edges to compensate. The result measures uneven but sounds even, sitting level across the spectrum instead of pushing at one end.
Why Veil
The hardware experience.
Without the hardware price.
Dedicated hardware noise machines cost $50–80 and do one thing well: generate non-looping noise. Veil does exactly that, on a phone you already own, for $19.99 one time.
How it stacks up
Hardware quality.
App store price.
Ask any user of the major white noise apps and you'll hear the same complaint: the loop restarts. Some of those apps charge $60 a year. Veil doesn't loop. Full stop.
