Hangar for Mac is a menu bar utility that gives developers a unified cockpit to manage every local project. It scans your Mac for projects scattered across folders, then provides tools to find, run, protect, and clean them. Features include: Discover : Automatically aggregates projects from Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and elsewhere into one live manifest. New projects can be started with Git and optional private GitHub repo setup. Run : Launch projects with the right package manager, assign stable local URLs, identify which process holds a port, and stop forgotten dev servers without terminal hunting. Protect : Highlights uncommitted changes, unpushed commits, missing remotes, risky worktrees, and local only projects. Integrates Git safety checks before pushing, and scans for secrets like .env files. Maintain : Identifies regenerable dependencies and build artifacts (e.g., node modules, .next, .turbo, pycache , Rust target, iOS Pods, Xcode DerivedData). Cleans them to the Trash, never touching source code. Space is only counted as reclaimed after Trash is emptied. Archive : After Git safety checks pass, projects can be archived with confidence. Hangar is transparent: all cleanups go to Trash for easy reversal; pinned projects are left alone; it never force pushes, rebases, or merges Git history.
